The old shape of your life stops fitting before the new one has arrived, and there's a stretch in between where you're not quite either version of yourself. ## When a good change still hurts People often arrive apologetic — the promotion, the move, the marriage was what they wanted, so why does it feel like grief? Because it is, partly. Every transition asks you to put something down, and that costs something even when the trade is good. ## When the old stuff surfaces Transitions have a way of reactivating things you thought were settled. A new role brings back an old sense of not being good enough; becoming a parent surfaces your own childhood; a move away reopens something about belonging. That's not regression. It's the transition pressing on material that was already there, and it makes this an unusually good moment to work on it — the door is already open. ## How I work with it EMDR and Brainspotting for whatever the transition has stirred up. EFT for the acute weeks. And plain conversation about what you're building, because part of this is genuinely practical.
