AN HONEST ANSWER

Is EMDR right for me?

Probably the most common question I'm asked before someone books. Here's a straight answer, including when the answer is no.

EMDR is often a good fit when

There's a specific event or set of events you can identify. Talking about it has produced understanding but not relief. You have some day-to-day stability and support. And you'd rather a structured process than open-ended conversation.

When I'd suggest something else first

If you're in acute crisis, actively unsafe, or newly out of a dangerous situation, stabilizing comes first — trauma processing is not the starting point.

If you're heavily dissociative, we go much more slowly and build resourcing for longer, and there are gentler ways in than EMDR.

And if you want weekly conversation rather than active processing, I'm honestly not your therapist — I'd rather say that now.

You don't have to decide

You're not choosing a method by booking a consultation. Fifteen minutes usually tells us both more than any amount of reading — including whether it's me you want to work with.
